A Victim

My second print is about the victim of this abusive relationship trapped in a dark room with a rope tied around her wrist representing her entrapment. It's essentially an image of the victim and what she feels like on the inside, lost, alone, and innocent, while presenting a false sense of happiness and security to the world.

  1. Sarah,

My name is Andrew Basler and I am a former student of Joel's. Actually, I'd like to think I taught Joel most of what he knows today. I am going through a bunch of the blogs from his current students and giving some quick feedback.

As a baby printmaker, I think you are doing a good job learning how to manipulate aquatint to achieve the various emotions you are trying to express. My only advice would be to highlight the lights more and darken the darks. I really like the emotion that your images portray, but I think you can highlight them even better by really pushing both ends of the gray scale... dramatic lights and deathening darks.

Tell that old Bastard teacher I said hi!
